Ahilya Bamroo, one of the two lead actors in the highly anticipated Telugu musical film Sing Geetham directed by the legendary Singeetham Srinivasa Rao, made a delightfully fresh and memorable impression at the film’s press interview.

Ahilya’s choice of outfit for the Sing Geetham press interview speaks volumes about her personal aesthetic — and it is a choice that immediately sets her apart from the typical promotional fashion playbook. She chose a beautifully simple slate blue/grey handloom cotton saree with a clean, plain body and a crisp deep navy blue border featuring a small gold geometric woven pattern — a traditional, utilitarian beauty that feels entirely rooted in Indian textile culture. The saree is draped in a classic, neat style that falls with the natural, unpretentious quality of handwoven cotton.
Paired with the saree is a maroon/wine-coloured short-sleeve blouse in a soft, textured cotton fabric, featuring a beautifully crafted dark gold geometric woven border band at the sleeve hem — an intricate traditional weave detail that adds a lovely note of artisanal craftsmanship to an otherwise simple blouse.
Ahilya’s accessory choices are personal, intentional, and entirely in keeping with the earthy, handcrafted spirit of her outfit. The standout piece is a simple black thread choker necklace with two warm amber-toned wooden or terracotta beads at the centre — an indie, artisanal choice that feels deeply personal and adds a grounded, natural warmth to the neckline of the blouse. Her earrings are small coral-red studs — a barely-there detail that introduces a warm hint of colour.
Ahilya Bamroo stars alongside Ayaan as the female lead of Sing Geetham — the landmark new Telugu film directed by the legendary Singeetham Srinivasa Rao. The film is set in the fictional village of Kuberapuram — a completely imagined world where people communicate entirely through song — and features music by the incomparable Devi Sri Prasad. The film is one of the most original and ambitious projects in recent Telugu cinema, and the choice of Ahilya Bamroo as its female lead — an actress of natural talent, genuine presence, and obvious artistic sensibility — appears entirely fitting for a film that so clearly values authenticity and imagination over convention. Ayan, Ahalya Bamru and Shalini Kondepudi play key roles. Sing Geetham releases on 11th June.
Ahalya Bamru said that ‘Sing Geetam’ has been made with a new concept that has never been seen on the Indian screen before… and she feels lucky to be a part of such a film.
“This is my second film. I have previously done a Hindi film called ‘I Want to Talk’ with Abhishek Bachchan. It is very special to do my second film in Telugu, that too under the direction of senior director Singeetham Srinivasa Rao. All the films made by Singeetham are ahead of their time. This is also one such film. Even at the age of 94, he made this film with very modern ideas. The story being a musical one, my passion for music, the combination of Singeetham Srinivasa Rao, Nag Ashwin, and Vyjayanthi’s movies… all these also made me do this film. This film is definitely a good start for me in Telugu.”
“I am from Puducherry. I grew up in an international community that speaks English, French, Bengali and other languages. I create content on Instagram. Director Nag Ashwin saw my content and approached me for this film. I also gave my audition on Instagram. Before that, I never thought of becoming an actress. It was an opportunity that came unexpectedly. I love singing and playing guitar. Since the story revolves mainly around music, I enjoyed ‘Sing Geetham’ even more. However, I was a little scared at first because I did not know Telugu. Then I started learning Telugu online. Now I am speaking a little bit.”
“Singeetham Srinivasa Rao creates great characters. In his films, the female characters are seen as very strong and independent. In this one too, I have a new kind of character. A character with a clear understanding of what she wants and a strong personality. In this, another mother is seen in the villain role. This is a film with very rare things. It will be enjoyed by children as well as adults. Producer Nag Ashwin is a big fan of Singeetham. His passion is also visible in this film. Even though Singeetham was directed… Nag Ashwin used to talk to each actor and give appropriate suggestions. Devi Sri Prasad gave beautiful songs for this film. Priyanka and Swapna are constantly thinking and working to present new kinds of stories to the audience. This journey we have made with them will be remembered forever.”
