Malayalam actress Anikha Surendran is the stunning centrepiece of a photoshoot that stops you in your tracks — a beautifully conceived collaboration between stylist Mehaka Kalarikkal, photographer Merin George, and makeup artist Ashif Marakkar that brings together traditional fashion, artisanal Indian textiles, and a magnificent heritage home interior to create images of genuine, lasting beauty.

The outfit, styled by Mehaka Kalarikkal, is a beautifully assembled traditional ensemble built around a luminous ivory and cream half-saree featuring a stunning botanical floral print. The saree/dupatta is crafted in a light, semi-sheer fabric with a naturally creamy white base, printed with large, loosely rendered watercolour-style lily and tropical flower motifs in a vivid multicolour palette — deep pink, teal, burnt orange, purple, and gold — creating a floral pattern of extraordinary natural freshness and painterly elegance. The edges of the dupatta are finished with a striking deep fuchsia pink border that introduces a bold, warm pop of colour against the cool ivory, making the overall drape look exceptional in every frame.

The half-saree is worn over a plain ivory/cream textured skirt in a subtle self-check or woven stripe fabric — the slightly textured weave catching the light with a soft, natural sheen — paired with a beautifully tailored teal green crop blouse that provides the structural anchor and dramatic colour contrast for the entire ensemble.
The teal blouse is a carefully designed piece with more drama than its front profile suggests. As beautifully captured in Merin George’s over-the-shoulder composition, the back of the blouse features a dramatic open design with minimal fabric coverage and delicate teal cord tie closures down the centre back — a detail that adds a strongly contemporary, fashion-forward dimension to what is otherwise a classically shaped traditional blouse. The open back works in gorgeous visual harmony with the ear-to-neck chain jewellery draped against the skin, creating one of the most striking and intimate compositions in the entire shoot.

The jewellery, selected as part of Mehaka Kalarikkal’s styling vision, is arguably the single most impactful element of the entire photoshoot. Anikha wears a spectacular pair of antique gold chandelier earrings — large, oval stud bases with cascading tiers of fine gold chains and tiny gold bead drops falling in dramatic fringe-like clusters — that frame her face with a warm, ancient metallic richness that is deeply evocative of Kerala’s classical jewellery heritage.
Makeup artist Ashif Marakkar has created a beautifully considered beauty look for the shoot — one that honours the heritage character of both the outfit and the setting while allowing Anikha’s natural expressiveness and personality to come through fully in every frame. The complexion is luminous and warmly glowing, with a dewy, healthy finish that photographs beautifully in the warm interior light of the heritage home. The defining makeup choice is the eyes: dramatically kohl-defined doe eyes with a softly built smokiness and a deep, richly expressive liner that gives Anikha’s gaze a depth and intensity that is absolutely magnetic — particularly in the moodier, more contemplative frames of the series.
Photographer Merin George brings a deeply cinematic, emotionally resonant quality to the shoot. The choice of a genuine Kerala heritage home — with its carved rosewood furniture, antique dressing mirrors, brass lamp stands, tharavad-style staircase with ornate wooden banisters, and traditional Kerala paintings on the walls — gives every frame a cultural depth and visual richness that no studio setting could replicate. Merin’s compositions range from intimate, moody close-ups that capture the expressiveness of Ashif’s kohl-defined eyes and the intricate beauty of the gold ear-chain jewellery, to dramatic full-length staircase portraits that reveal the full sweep and movement of the ivory floral saree.
