A1: Accused No. 1 is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language film written and directed by Johnson who won the ‘Naalaya Iyakkunar’ title in season 2 and this is his directorial debut. The film stars Santhanam and Tara Alisha Berry in the lead roles. The music for the film is composed by Santhosh Narayanan and cinematography is handled by Gopi Jagadeeswaran.
About the film, Johnson says, “A1 is an out-and-out North Madras film. Santhanam sir hasn’t done a role like this in his previous films. The film has an interesting story and does not solely rely on its comedy.”
Also starring Rajendran, Sai Kumar, Yatin Karyekar, Lollu Sabha fame-Manohar, and Swaminathan, A1 is bankrolled by Raj Narayanan of Circle Box Entertainment.

Recently the movie got into controversy with the Hindu Tamizhar Katchi (HTK) filing a complaint that the film hurts the sentiments of the Brahmin community. Petition was handed over seeking ban of A1, a film that was defaming Brahmin women. This movie is to be released on July 26. The movie is instigating caste based violence, the petition stated.

The teaser that was released recently has a brahmin woman eating an omlette to prove her love for the hero and this apparently did not go too well with the HTK members who have now filed a complaint with the Chennai Police Commissioner stating that such scenes would create an enimity between caste groups.
Speaking about the controversy, producer Raj Narayanan had said in an interview to the Deccan Chronicle, “It’s a love story of a local boy Saravanan played by Santhanam and a Brahmin girl (Tara) and the first half is a romantic comedy with a dark second half. These dialogues are passing references and when you watch the film, you will know there are no such visual scenes. And, the Censor Board has given a clean chit in a ‘U’ certificate for the film. Moreover, I haven’t received any notification from the police (sic).”
