Priya Prakash Varrier is back to enthrall the Telugu audience this Friday with the movie ‘Ishq Not A Love Story’. She made her Telugu debut with the movie ‘CHECK’, but it failed to leave a mark as she played a cameo in CHECK. Ishq is going to be a proper Tollywood debut for Priya Prakash Varrier in Telugu, as she is essaying a full-pledged role in the film. With just a few days left for the film to hit the big screens, Priya Prakash Varrier is busy with the movie promotions of ‘Ishq’. In an interview with Sakshi Post, the actress gave some insights into the film.
How did the film land in your hands?
It happened very quickly, I joined the shoot in two days after I was finalized for the project.
Did you watch the Malayalam version before doing it?
Yes, I watched the Malayalam film. It’s an edge of seat thriller. Director Raju sir gave me the freedom to showcase my character in my own way. He did not force me to copy the original. He is a very down to earth person. I enjoyed working with him because, after the scene, he never told us if it was good or bad. I was the one who would ask him, ‘how’s the shot.’
You debuted in Malayalam but seem to be doing a lot of work in Tollywood. Would you shift base if you get more offers here?
Telugu and Malayalam audiences are totally different, they want different kind of stories. When it comes to Telugu people, they prefer commercial films. When it comes to Malayalam, they prefer content-driven films. We just can’t watch the same genre always, both should go hand in hand.
You are doing a lot of movies in Telugu
Yes, Hyderabad or Telugu is like my second home. If I really get an interesting script then definitely I’m ready to work even in Malayalam films. I’m waiting for the right script as the Malayalam audience prefers more content-driven films. I’m waiting for a proper break in Malayalam.
Have you picked up Telugu?
I’m still at a learning stage, but I’m able to understand what other people say. If I do two to three films more, then I will definitely be able to talk in Telugu.
What about your education?
I completed my graduation right much the pandemic hit. Currently, I’m focusing on movies and I want my career to shape up well. So, for now, I have kept my further studies on hold for a while.
How’s your co-star Teja Sajja on the sets?
He is very active on the sets. I really enjoyed working with him. I watched Oh Baby but I didn’t particularly remember Teja Sajja. When the makers approached me and said that Teja, then I was like I watched him in Oh Baby. Later, I also watched his youtube videos. It’s fun working with him.
Priya Prakash Varrier also has several impressive projects in Telugu and Hindi. She did not disclose details about her next film in Telugu, as she is waiting for the makers to announce it before her.
