Priya Bhavani Shankar stills at her Telugu debut movie Kalyanam Kamaneeyam Interview.
‘Kalyanam Kamaneeyam’ is this Sankranthi’s feel-good and warm family drama involving a young married couple. UV Creations has produced the movie. Young hero Santosh Shoban is its male lead.
Priya Bhavani Shankar, one of the most talented actors in contemporary Tamil cinema, is making her Tollywood debut with this film. She is excited as much as she is anxious about the film’s release tomorrow (January 14). In this interview, the ‘Thiru’ actor talks about the film and gives us an idea of what to expect from it.
Here is what Priya said:
I have done some really good content films in Tamil. I am happy to be making my debut in Telugu, that too with a film produced by a big banner like UV Creations.
I am a fan of feel-good films that exude warmth and have relatable characters. ‘Kalyanam Kamaneeyam’ is the film I would love to watch. So, doing it was a great experience. All the more so because of the wonderful team I got to work with.
Right from the hero down, everyone was so sorted and cooperative. Santosh Shoban helped me with my lines, as I am against using prompting on set. He is a talented actor who I came to know had worked his way up through sheer dint and struggle. Although he is the son of a filmmaker (director Shoban of ‘Varsham’ fame), he is no privileged kid.
Coming to the plot, it is a simple yet evocative one revolving around a husband and a wife who have zero ego issues. The husband is unemployed and his working wife, Shruti (played by me), is upset when she discovers that her social circle views him as worthless. One bad day, she picks up an argument with him. This triggers a series of happenings in her married life.
I am much like Shruti in real life. I can say she is 90% the real me. As such, I didn’t find playing her challenging at all. Moreover, this is a feel-good film that is my kind of cinema. I am eagerly waiting to know I will be viewed by the Telugu audience. When I made my debut in Tamil, my expectations were muted. Ahead of my Tollywood debut, I am anxiously waiting to gauge the audience’s response.
Director Anil Kumar Aalla has written and narrated the story in a completely relatable fashion. Shruti is someone your sister, your wife, your daughter, and your mother will relate to. She is a woman you have all met in real life. Anil is not my first debut director. I have worked with quite a few debutants in Tamil. I am game for it, especially when the filmmaker comes with clarity of thought. UV Creations supporting him only enhanced my trust in him.
Shravan Bharadwaj’s music is going to be enjoyed by the audience. The production values are rich.
I am going to be seen in Naga Chaitanya’s ‘Dhootha’ this year. Then there is Satyadev’s 26th film. I am also in talks for some Telugu projects.
