Neha Shetty is set to captivate audiences with her portrayal of Bujji in the upcoming film “Gangs of Godavari.” While the trailers and songs depict a seemingly vulnerable young woman, Neha assures viewers that there’s much more to her character.
A Transformation from Vulnerability to Strength
“Bujji is a beautiful, elegant girl from a wealthy village family,” Neha explains. “But beneath the surface lies a strong woman. The film explores her journey from a seemingly quiet and fragile girl to someone who discovers her inner strength.”
Stepping Back in Time
“Gangs of Godavari” is set in the 1990s, and Neha embraced the era’s distinct style. “The director referenced legendary actress Sobhana for inspiration,” she reveals. “From the kajal eyeliner to the saree draping and hairstyle, everything was meticulously recreated.”
The Art of Subtlety
Neha highlights the unique acting style required for the film. “The 1990s weren’t about over-the-top expressions,” she explains. “The acting was more internal and quiet, relying heavily on conveying emotions through subtle expressions. This added a layer of complexity to portraying Bujji.”
Breaking the Mold
This role marks a significant departure for Neha. “I’m accustomed to playing characters in their 20s with more outgoing personalities,” she shares. “Bujji is different, and the fact that she’s from a wealthy family adds another layer to her persona, especially when it comes to the Godavari dialect spoken in the film.”
A Journey of Emotions
“Gangs of Godavari” is more than just a gangster drama. “It’s a story about life’s journey,” Neha emphasizes. “We witness Bujji’s growth and development, and the film explores the entire spectrum of emotions a woman experiences.”
Comfort and Camaraderie on Set
Working with co-star Vishwak Sen was a positive experience for Neha. “We knew each other beforehand, which made filming romantic scenes comfortable,” she says. “Our on-screen chemistry is evident.”
A Director with a Vision
Neha is impressed by director Krishna Chaitanya. “He’s a wonderful person, though a man of few words,” she describes. “Yet, seeing his work on this film, you wouldn’t believe it. There’s a depth to him that translates beautifully onto the screen. Additionally, his upbringing in the Godavari region brings authenticity to the film’s setting.”
Beyond Violence
While the promos hint at action elements, Neha clarifies the film’s genre. “It’s a beautiful blend of romance, thriller, comedy, and action, all woven together with a strong emotional core,” she explains. “There’s no horror, but audiences will be thoroughly entertained.”
Healthy Competition with Anjali
Neha shares her experience working with co-star Anjali. “We had a healthy competition, even though we didn’t share many scenes,” she says. “Anjali is a bubbly person off-screen, but the moment the director calls action, she transforms into a focused actress. Her experience and talent are undeniable.”
Filming Through the Seasons
Production for “Gangs of Godavari” spanned a year. “The heat in Rajahmundry was brutal,” Neha recalls. “There were even instances of people fainting on set. However, we also experienced moments of serendipity. During a romantic scene on a bridge, a sudden drizzle added a natural touch of magic to the scene.”
A Longstanding Collaboration
Neha expresses her gratitude to the production house, Sithara Entertainments. “They’ve become like family,” she says. “We’ve had successful collaborations in the past, and I look forward to working with them again.”
Neha Shetty’s portrayal of Bujji in “Gangs of Godavari” promises to be a revelation, showcasing her journey from a seemingly vulnerable young woman to a figure of strength, ready to be explored on the big screen.
